Ontranto is located in Hanahan, SC, along the western side of the Goose Creek Reservoir. Many of the homes were built in the 1970s, but there are some newer homes as well, along with some condos at the entrance of the neighborhood (Otranto Station). Ontranto is a waterfront community, and some of the homes have a waterfront lot. There is a City Park located along the Goose Creek Reservoir, called Venice Ave. Park, with a great waterfront view, picnic tables, and more. There is also a public boat landing on Goose Creek Reservoir about 10 minutes away (about 4 miles), at Bettis Boat Landing, another City of Hanahan Park.
Originally part of the historic Ontranto Plantation dating back to the late 1600s, the land once belonged to Arthur and Edward Middleton and later Dr. Alexander Garden. The original plantation house was built during the colonial period and remains on Basilica Avenue, and is one of the oldest buildings in South Carolina.
Otranto is conveniently located close to Rivers Ave and has quick access to Interstate 26, making it a good location for frequent travelers. It is just minutes away from Northwoods Mall, Wannamaker County Park, several restaurants, retail stores, and Trident Hospital.
